Something not working?

Email support@cmdv.dev. Say which device and version of iOS you are using, the app version from Settings › About, what you did, and what you expected. If a hint or a rating looks wrong, a screenshot of the board is the fastest way to get a useful answer. Nine has no network access, so nothing is sent automatically; a report only reaches us if you choose to send it.

Common questions

How is the daily puzzle chosen?

The tier follows the week: Easy on Monday and Tuesday, Medium Wednesday to Friday, Hard at the weekend. The puzzle itself is drawn the first time you open that day's daily, and stays the same after that. Days follow your device's local date.

I started the daily before midnight. Did I lose it?

No. An unfinished daily keeps its own date and waits under Continue on Home, marked “until midnight”, for one more day. Finish it then and the original day counts as completed. After that grace day it is cleared.

How does the streak work?

The streak is the number of consecutive days with a completed daily. Today not being played yet does not break it; a whole missed day does. Past days cannot be played after the fact. If you travel across time zones, your device's date can jump, which can occasionally skip a day.

Do hints count against me?

Each hint you ask for is counted once, however many steps you reveal, and appears on the completion screen and in your statistics totals. Hints do not affect your best or average times. If the board contains a mistake, Nine says so instead of giving a hint, because no deduction is safe from a wrong board, and that does not count as a hint.

How many times can I use Check?

Ten times per puzzle on Easy, six on Medium, three on Hard, and as often as you like on Junior. The number left is shown on the button. Restarting a puzzle does not give checks back.

Why is a digit shown in red when it might be right?

With Flag conflicts on, red means the digit clashes with another in its row, column, or box. Either of the two could be the wrong one. To compare against the actual solution, use Check.

Can Nine fill in pencil marks for me?

No. Pencil marks are yours to add: tap Pencil, then tap digits. Turn on Auto-remove pencil marks in Settings › Assistance and marks are cleared from related cells when you place a digit.

I tapped a tier and it asked about my game in progress.

Each tier keeps one saved game, and the daily has its own, separate slot. Choose Resume to carry on, or Start new to replace it. Games save as you play and when you leave the app, so quitting to Home never loses a board.

Can I change the tile pack partway through a puzzle?

Yes. Tap the gear during a game and pick Numbers, Colours, Fruit, or Emoji in Settings. The puzzle underneath does not change, and the clock stops while Settings is open.

Does my progress sync between my iPhone and iPad?

No. Nine has no network access, so each device keeps its own games, statistics, and streak.

How do I move to a new phone?

Restore the new phone from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one. Your saved games, history, and streak are part of the device backup and come across with it. There is no other export, and deleting the app deletes this data.

What do Clear saved games and Reset everything remove?

Both are in Settings › Data and ask for confirmation. Clear saved games abandons every puzzle in progress and keeps your history and statistics. Reset everything erases statistics, streak, daily history, and saved games, and also returns all settings to their defaults. Neither can be undone, because there is no copy anywhere else.

Nine shows an error when it starts.

Nine needs about 2 MB of free storage to set itself up on first launch. Free some space and open it again. If the error says your saved data could not be upgraded or the puzzle bank could not be read, email us with the exact message before deleting the app, since deleting it erases your history.

Will I run out of puzzles?

Unlikely. Nine ships 21,000. Each tier gives you puzzles you have not seen first, and if you ever play through a whole tier it starts offering the ones you played longest ago.
