Before you do, Settings › Diagnostics in the app produces a report describing your device, the app's version, and what recently went wrong. Credentials are stripped from it, and you see it before anything is sent. Attaching it makes most problems solvable in one exchange rather than five.

Common questions

Which address do I enter for my library?

Your server's address, not the feed's. The app discovers the OPDS feed from there. Calibre-Web Automated is the reference server and the only one tested against a live instance. Komga, Kavita, and COPS are built to their published specifications and have not yet been verified against the real thing, so if one misbehaves, a diagnostic report is especially useful.

My server is behind single sign-on.

Choose web sign-in when adding the server. The app opens your identity provider's login page in a web view, so Authentik, Authelia, and Cloudflare Access work the way they do in a browser.

My server uses a self-signed certificate.

The app shows you the certificate's fingerprint and asks you to confirm it. Compare it with the fingerprint on your server before accepting.

Can I open an EPUB from the Files app?

Not yet. Books come from a catalogue you connect, or from a restored backup. Add the file to your library server and it will appear in the app.

Can it open Kindle, Kobo, or Apple Books purchases?

No. The app does not implement DRM of any kind. MOBI and AZW3 files are not supported either. Convert them to EPUB with Calibre, which is one step.

What happens to my highlights if I delete a book?

They stay. Re-download the book, even a different edition, and they are matched back by identity, then by content, then by the surrounding words. A highlight that cannot be placed is kept and flagged rather than deleted.

How does sync work, and what if I lose my passphrase?

Sync uses a small server you run yourself. Everything sent to it is encrypted on your device with a key derived from your passphrase, and nobody else holds that passphrase. If you lose every device and the passphrase, synced history cannot be recovered by anyone. Rotating the server token also makes existing synced data unreadable, so treat rotation as starting fresh rather than changing a password. Your library passwords and book files never sync.

Where are my backups?

In the folder you chose, as a ZIP of documented JSON. Backups are written when the app becomes active and one is due, weekly by default, so a month without opening the app is a month without a backup.

Why can't I search or listen to a PDF?

Scanned PDFs with no text layer have nothing to search, index, or speak. Comics have no text either, so they get bookmarks, progress, and statistics, but not highlights, search, or speech.
